The South occurrence is located on a small ridge separating the southeastern headwaters of the Quatse River and the northeastern headwaters of Stephens Creek, approximately 5.5 kilometres east of Quatse Lake.

Regionally, the area is underlain by northwest-trending belts of basaltic volcanics and carbonate sedimentary rocks of the Upper Triassic Karmutsen and Quatsino formations (Vancouver Group) and mafic volcanics and sediments of the Upper Triassic to Lower Jurassic Bonanza Group (Holberg volcanic unit, Nahwitti River wacke and Parson Bay Formation). These volcanic and sedimentary rocks have been intruded by granodioritic rocks of the Early to Middle Jurassic Island Plutonic Suite.

Locally, limestone is altered to skarn along limestone-andesite contacts. The skarn is rich in disseminated chalcopyrite and, in places, magnetite. Several showings, referred to as the South, Branch 7 and East zones, are present within a 200 by 200 metre area.

The largest skarn zone (South zone) is traceable for 35 metres, strikes northwest and dips 30 degrees south. Skarn is also developed along the margins of an andesite dike. The limestone in this area has been metamorphosed to marble. In 1983, a grab sample of the skarn containing chalcopyrite and magnetite assayed 5.75 per cent copper, 6.86 grams per tonne silver and trace gold (Assessment Report 8284).

The Branch 7 (Norm) zone outcrops along a logging road. A grab sample of this skarn assayed 8.45 per cent copper, 65.13 grams per tonne silver and 0.69 gram per tonne gold (Assessment Report 8284). In 1980, a drillhole (N7) is reported to have yielded 1.58 per cent copper over 5.7 metres, including 2.85 per cent copper and 23.9 grams per tonne silver over 1.65 metres (Assessment Report 19423).

The East zone is a small exposure 150 metres southeast of the Branch 7 showing and might be a continuation of that showing. A grab sample assayed 1.69 per cent copper, 1.31 grams per tonne silver and 0.34 grams per tonne gold (Assessment Report 8289).

In 1963, Port Hardy Copper Mines Ltd. completed three drillholes, totalling 83.4 metres. In 1966, a program of soil sampling was completed on the area immediately south as the Reef claims. In 1968, Dawn Minerals soil sampled the area. Also, at this time, Emperor Mines completed an airborne magnetic survey on the area immediately north. In 1969, Yellowknife Bear Mines Ltd. completed a program of soil sampling and a 49.6 line-kilometre ground magnetic survey on the area as the Little Joe claims. In 1980, a program of geological mapping was completed. In 1981 and 1983, Energex Minerals Ltd. completed an airborne electromagnetic survey and eight diamond drill holes, totalling 232.4 metres, on the area as the Cliff claims. During 1987 through 1989, programs of rock and soil sampling, geological mapping, minor trenching and 16.7 line-kilometres of ground magnetic surveys were completed on the area.

In 1991 and 1992, Daiwan Engineering Ltd. completed programs of prospecting, geochemical sampling and ground geophysical surveys the area immediately north as the Marisa 1-4 claims.

In 2016, the area was prospected by Tech-X Resources Ltd.
